Sweet Home Chicago

Hi Family, my name is Catherine Berger. I know I haven't formally met all of you yet, but because of this inspiring family newsletter, I look forward to meeting and sharing stories, and making memories with everyone! First to know me is to love me, and love my cats. This picture was taken almost 40 years ago, and is a very clear window into who I am. I love being outdoors and love kitties! Currently I have two cats, Avery (a Maine Coon American Curl, his side view looks like a devil as his ears really DO curl back, I will post a picture later), and Partner, one of the most regal cats I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!

Ok, so more about me, I am probably the only family member still residing in Chicago (about 40miles NW of the actual City), and will always call this "Sweet Home Chicago". I work in the Real Estate industry and with the current state of the economy, my job a little challenging right now!

So how are we related? I am the youngest daughter of Lois Jean Rasmussen and Edward Joseph Berger (the best dad a girl could have). I have one sister Marion, and one brother Ed. The picture to the right is of Mom (Aunt Lois), Brother (Cousin Ed), Sister (Cousin Marion), and me (Cousin Catherine) in Stone Lake Wisconsin. This is the cottage that we, as a family, spent summers together for about 10 years. Although we hadn't been there, together, since 1975, the history, smells, memories, and fun has never changed. I can't wait to go again!

Now to the really important news...Chicago Sports!! It is true, I am a Chicago Sports Fan Proud and true. If you have never been to a baseball game at Wrigley Field, I challenge all of you to experience the magic. This is the CUBBIES year, REALLY! It's only been 100 years! Of course Lovie Smith is no Mike Ditka, but the da BEARS are looking kinda good.....

Look forward to getting to know everyone! Have a great week!
GO CUBS GO!!!!

Hi, Catherine,

I am hoping you and I will get to meet someday soon. I love your photo as a child. I, too, am a cat person. Joey is my cat along with our beloved Bolo our boxer. I remember when you had a boxer, too. I used to babysit for your family occasionally, but I can't remember if you were born when I lived at home. I got married in 1966. Wow!

My first husband, Glenn and I took afternoons off to picnic in the bleachers at Wrigley Field. (No lights for night games then). Glenn is a card carrying bleacher bum. We also had season tickets for the Bears, when Gayle Sayers played. Celeste, Kathy and I got to meet Mike Ditka at his restaurant last year. He was sitting nearby and he asked why we moved away from Chicago. He said it was one of the biggest mistakes we ever made!
Love ya, Irene

that was a really cool post. I'm Irene's son. She has three of them but I'm the only one really worth knowing. Just kidding, my brothers are awesome and my little borther dwarves me so I should be nice.(He's huge)

I have two cats too, Gary (Russian blue) and Lucy (town whore). But we LOVE her. She takes after her mother back in NY, a wild cat that probably holds the world record for most litters. She won't let anyone catch her to be fixed. Enough about the long island foxy feline.

I've been selling software for a while an dI used to cover Chicago. Love the city, people the package but I could do without the wind.

Bay area sports are killing me right now. Raiders and Niners are weak. Kyle Orton and Forte are pulling it together for you guys. I'm liking the bears this year. Amazing stadium as well. ok, check in later. peace
